S-Cabriolet Test Drive
With Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG at the Côte d’Azur to test drive the new S-Cabriolet and the new SLC
After my excessive adventuring with my Sternblogger-mate Chris, I had the chance to join Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG this weekend for the driving event of the new S-Cabriolet and the new SLC Roadster in Nice, France. I left Berlin on Saturday morning and took my flight to Nice Airport. Around 1pm, I arrived at the airport from where we would take the brand new S-Cabrio (A217) to our first destination. As I checked in at the Mercedes booth at the airport I got to meet my companion Can Struck with whom I had the pleasure to test drive both the S-Cabriolet as well as the SLC Roadster.
As we started our excursion it was a bit rainy and the sky was very cloudy – perfect conditions to test the AIRSCARF and the THERMOTRONIC of the Convertible. Considering the rather chilled temperatures around 13℃ and the few rain drops every now and then, driving with top open was really pleasant. After a quick drive along the beach of Cannes, we arrived at our first stop: Château Sainte Roseline for a brief lunch break. Continuing we left the beautiful winery to start with the second route which would lead to our hotel, located directly on the coast: Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat. Fortunately, the sky was much clearer now and as the sun came out it was even a little warmer. This, of course, helped out to get the shots we were looking for and so we stopped at Lac de Saint-Cassien from where we had an amazing view over the lake with our gorgeous S63 4-Matic Cabriolet in the foreground.
About our test model:
Model: Mercedes-AMG S 63 4-Matic Cabrio
Exterior: Designo Mocha Black Metallic
Interior: Designo Exclusive Nappa AMG saddle brown
Engine: 5.5-litre V8 BiTurbo with 585hp and 900Nm
As we continued our drive the sun started shining brighter and warmer and so we drove through Nice with proper Cabriolet weather while enjoying some tunes from the Burmester Sound System paired with marvelous sound from the car’s V8! After some time, we arrived at our hotel in Nice. Surprisingly we weren’t the last to arrive (we thought we had lost too much time with our photo stops) but instead, we were some of the first to arrive at the hotel. As it turns out the other bloggers and journalists didn’t want to miss out a good photo spot either. So after a little delay the evening program started, beginning with a gentle welcome speech and a promising preview for our test drive with the SLC Roadster, followed by an amazing dinner with very interesting conversations.
To be continued…
